SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Community members will have a chance to buy big quantities of locally grown food this weekend at the annual Stuff Your Pantry event.

It’s a chance for people to meet farmers and buy big amounts of flour, squash or carrots. There will also be experts on hand, teaching people how to store produce during the winter to make it last.

The Willamette Farm and Food Coalition says many small farms don’t have the resources to store all their flour or carrots for the winter, so this sale is a way for them to profit from their extra crop.

“So this is a little different than going to the farmers market every week where you grab a little of this and a little of that. It’s an opportunity for you to buy 25 pounds of lentils, or 20 pounds of carrots,” said Lynne Fessenden, Executive Director of the Willamette Farm and Food Coalition.

It runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Sprout in downtown Springfield. So far, pre-orders for the sale total more than $18,000.
